We love hearing from customers around the world and was thrilled to receive a hello, or should that be ‘hola’ from Ricardo Celis who lives in Guatemala, Central America who sent us a photo of his red Mk1 Golf GTi. We imagine it’s a pretty rare sight – although as we understand from Ricardo, the car scene in that neck of the woods is thriving…
“Is wonderful car, so many people like it. I love this car,” Ricardo proudly announces and because we’ve been so helpful sourcing parts for it, we’ve even received an invite to visit. “You are welcome to Guatemala, is so nice place. Or maybe I am going to travel to UK in future… to see game football Manchester United. I like so much play football.” And why not?
From what we can tell Guatemala has quite a buzzing old car scene and in his last piece of correspondence Ricardo had lined up a car show in which he was intending to display his Golf. We guess it would make quite a splash alongside the monster classic Cadillacs and Chevrolets! He’s also signed up for a track day which, judging by the flier, is likely to attract a wide range of Dubs from hot rod Bugs to buses and all number of Golfs.
Ricardo’s kept the 1982 Golf, supplied originally by Continental Motors in Guatemala City, pretty stock by the looks of it during his 15 year tenure, just adding a few chrome touches and a bonnet spoiler to give it a retro feel.
His next project? A 1972 Beetle, given to him by his father Keep up the great work, Ricardo!
If you live in an equally far flung part of the world, drop us a line via the blog!

A beautiful, well cared for car!
I spent some time working in Guatemala City and there is definitely a broad spectrum of interesting cars on the roads.
A work colleague who’s now a good friend loves old VW’s, and has an old S Class Mercedes and Range Rover. He’s looking for a Jaguar XJ now!
