11,200 mile Mk2 Golf

We’ve been watching with interest the rapid rise of Mk2 Golf values in the last six months with £15,000 seemingly being the absolute pinnacle to date – unless you know otherwise, of course! That was for the late, low mileage GTi that we blogged about here. However, if rarity is high on your agenda then this poverty spec early Mk2 gem might be just as desirable…

It’s a known fact with older cars that the survival rate of sportier models and special editions is always higher than that of more mundane run-of-the-mill models. Which is precisely what makes this virtually as-new bog standard 1984 Mars Red 1.6 so special. Oh, and the fact that it’s apparently only covered 17,945km – or a tad over 11,000 miles in old money. Lots of modern cars wouldn’t have even had their first service at this mileage!

It’s being sold by E&R Classics in Waalwijk, Holland here and as you can see, it looks in pretty original nick with its stock steels wheels, small bumpers and grey cloth interior. The price is €10,950 which is roughly £8600.

It’s a left-hooker and an auto, but that shouldn’t necessarily put buyers off because cars like this don’t come up very often. Moreover, all the documents, including the car’s original service booklet are present. Obviously you’ll need to fetch it from Holland but E&R can help with that and quote £900 to transport it to London.
