Scirocco Register National Meet show report

On the 8th of August the Scirocco Register descended on RAF Cosford for its annual National Meet, and with the sun shining (unlike last year) expectations were high for a huge turnout. Heath Scotchford sent us this report…

As usual the day begins five miles away at Telford Services where the convoys that have travelled from all corners of the UK converge. This year we had members from as far afield as Aberdeen and the Netherlands. The reason? The mass convoy to the show area itself…

This year the sight of 40-plus Sciroccos travelling down the M54 was just fantastic with many a surprised look from other road users. They joined the 20 or more Sciroccos already parked up between the iconic hangers, owners patiently awaiting the best traffic jam in the world to turn up and join them.

Cars continued to arrive throughout the day resulting a record turnout of Sciroccos, with all three marks attending as well as associated models, such as the Corrado, giving an impressive final count of 72. With everything from dailies, concours contenders, weekend weapons and standard cars to modified masterpieces there was something for everyone.

Many more members turned up in their ‘other’ or daily cars just to be a part of the whole spectacle. In fact, that’s possibly the best part about the meet – the relaxed atmosphere and seeing so many club members walking round, chatting, laughing and swapping stories as well as parts.

As usual there’s prizes given out for the best Mk1, best Mk2, and best ‘Other’ all voted for by those who attended, as well as the ‘Rocco Mafia Pie Award’ given to what best represents the culture of the club when building a car. A new trophy was also given out this year, the ‘Ian Coucher Award’ named after a key club member that we lost last year. The award is given to someone that represents what’s best about the club.

With many making a weekend out of it with club camping and hotels nearby, for many the day extended well in to the night. In all, it was a truly great event with the added bonus of £150 being raised for our designated charity – Help For Heroes. In fact the best complement we received about the day was from one of the security guards who came over just to say: “We have all sorts of car clubs here – Bentley, Pre-war, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, but this is truly amazing as you just don’t see these cars anymore. You rarely saw them when they were new and there’s loads of them.”
