What better way to satisfy your desire to do some travelling in a new T6 Bus and raise awareness about different types of cancer at the same time than to embark on a fundraising roadtrip. Well, that’s precisely Emma Nicholls is planning with sponsorship from VW Heritage and a new VW Bus kindly lent to her by Sussex-based Campervan hire company J4 Campers…
Emma, who is currently recovering from non Hodgkin’s lymphoma, starts her epic two-week trip on May 14 from the Asda superstore in Burnham on Sea. Her plan is to work her way around the country setting up a stand alongside the van outside big supermarkets to collect for Macmillan Cancer Support as well as handing out leaflets providing information about different types of cancer. She also plans to do a few stints in various Macmillan charity shops on her travels.
Emma’s a huge VW fan and even has a Split Screen Bus tattoo on her arm to prove it. “My dream is to own a Split Screen Bus one day.” she explains. “In fact, I’d love to undertake a Bus restoration project because it would be a brilliant thing to do once I am better.”
A few years ago Emma did actually own a VW Bus. However, the whole experience didn’t end particularly well for her. “I sent it to a guy to have some welding done, but a few weeks later he called me up and told me he’d scrapped it and gave me £300. I was totally ripped off as it had an engine and I know it was repairable. To date, that was the closest I’ve come to enjoying owning a Veedub!”
