It’s one of the big VW events at Santa Pod each year and James, part of our Trade Sales team, and a keen follower of VW drag racing took our Tischer up for the weekend to check it out.Meeting up with Graham from Rawspeed Engine Tuning in the pits (James has been supplying parts to him for a few years now) he got stuck in helping with the rest of the crew preparing the Slingshot Dragster.
Graham’s Dragster is not your average VW. It’s Noslgia design means that it doesn’t meet many of today’s safety regulations, so he can only run it on RWYB days and with the ‘Wild Bunch’. We ran a story all about it last year, take a look!
There were plenty of ‘full bodied’ VWs to get the blood pumping at Big Bang too, with some great head to head duels on the legendary 1/4 mile strip. The Outlaw Flat Four club were well represented, and if you wanted a speedy bus service, Phil Jarvis and Trevor Sharpe who have two of the fastest in the UK were chasing the times all weekend.
If you wanted to slow down the pace for a few minutes you can wander the show and shine area, enjoy the sunshine, and the plentiful reflections in gleaming paintwork; well, until you come across some tough as nails patina rides. The shine may have faded from their fenders, but the character is still ever present. Slammed, or stock there was something to suit every style and taste; and even some nu-skool T4’s and T5’s lining up to represent the waterpumpers!
This show report maybe a little late coming, but its helped to bring back the memories of what a great show Big Bang was.. and whilst last weekend’s Bug Jam is now fresh in dubbers minds (and sunburnt upon arms, legs and heads) if you really enjoyed this one, or our show report has you wanting to get in on the action.. well, check out VW Action at Santa Pod in September for alot more of the same!
See you there!
Andy
