The summer season is always a busy time for us, with events happening every weekend.A few weeks back we sent James and Luke ‘Up North’ to work at the VW Festival at Harewood House in Leeds; read on to find out how they got on.
It’s not a 5 minute drive from our home in Shoreham to the grounds of the historic Harewood House, in West Yorkshire; but we try our best to get to as many ‘far away’ shows as we can during the year- Leeds VW Festival being one of them. So far this year we’ve made trips to Volksfling in Scotland, Dubshed and Aircooled Drag Day in Ireland, and EBI in Belgium.
The journey was pretty terrible, catching the M25 and the M1 at peak time; we would have left earlier, but were waiting on a new generator arriving to keep us powered over the weekend. After 7 hours in the van the weather on arrival was very poor but we remained smiling, you have to just laugh sometimes! And it would all be worth it..
Saturday morning came, fortunately bringing some sunshine with it; a welcome reward for our night in a tent! The show was busy, loads of big money cars on display and plenty of campers who had spent the night too, albeit in slightly more luxurious surroundings!
The grounds of Harewood house are beautiful and provide a wonderful backdrop to this show. VWs of every model and style are out on show with a perfect balance of old and new, air and watercooled – this is a show for every VW enthusiast!
What caught their eye? A pair of Jettas stole Luke’s heart, a number of old skool Audi Quattros and the polo with a roof tent raised a smile too!
James prefering the Split panel van, the stock Kombi and the Baja.
Next year? Luke says yes.. but in his own car – this year was his first, but it seems the VW Festival has bitten him!
