A few of our team really enjoy the vintage side of the Volkswagen scene; sales manager Nick, and James who is our website content manager both took trips over to Germany a week or two back. Here’s how they found Bad Camberg 2015.Even though this show is held every 4 years, it was amazingly celebrating the tenth time it has taken over the town of Bad Camberg; largely thanks to the organisation and dedication of the Lottermann family, who run the local VW dealership. (The first ever VW dealership, in the world!)
It’s been something of a Mecca for fans of vintage and rare VWS, almost since the start and attracts enthusiasts not just from Europe, but from all over the world. This year saw visitors from as far away as the USA, Japan, Australia and even Indonesia.
There were some very early VWs on display – in fact several KdF wagens – which were built during the war years, and also a prototype Schwimmwagen, among the rows of the more common split and oval window Beetles.
If coachbuilt specials are your thing, then this was the place to see examples of Hebmueller, Rometch, Dannenhaur & Stauss and well as various one offs, including a splitscreen Beetle based Ice Cream van.
The swap meet was packed with plenty of often extremely expensive parts, although understandably, these were generally the “rarest of the rare” items. Even so, 2500 Euros for a steering wheel did strike me as just a little steep!
Nevertheless, it made for a great weekend and the weather even played ball on Saturday, after a rather wet Friday evening. What more could you ask for?!
