Hopefully you would have caught up with our story last week about the cheeky Beetle owner who listed a fragment of rust taken from their car on the nation’s favourite internet auction site. Well, we can now reveal the vendor – it’s Sheila from London and we’ve a picture of her and her Bug ‘Spud’…

Sheila bought ‘Spud’ last month having been left some money by her nan in her will. “I was given the instruction to use the money for nothing other than buying a Beetle as I’ve wanted one since I was a kid. There were even threats of hauntings if I did not comply with her wishes,” smiled Sheila.
“I saw Spud up for sale a short drive up the road from me and it was love at first sight. I knew she would need some work but don’t mind getting my hands dirty and I know how to weld, so I picked her up.
“The auction was just a fun idea I had when I started stripping her down – the heater channel was so far gone it wasn’t attached to the floorpan at all! I kept finding more and more orange ‘goldust’. I sometimes do listings for other people and once had someone say to me, ‘Is there anything you won’t try and sell?’ So this was kind of a reaction to that.
“To be honest, I was absolutely astounded by the amount of interest it created. I had an absolute blast answering all the questions – there really are loads of comedians in Dubland!”
Sheila is currently deciding what to spend the £6 winning bid on, but already has a few ideas up her sleeve. “I am going to start by putting it towards a heater channel and then I am going to spend the rest on a med cruise, tea at the Ritz and then put some into stocks and shares…”
Sounds like Sheila may need to list a bit more of her ‘goldust’ soon!
