Drive your classic to work!

We all know how much sense it makes using a classic on a daily basis and Dubs of all eras make some of the best everyday drivers. Now if you spotted a few more classics than normal on the drive in today, that’s because it’s officially ‘Drive Your Classic To Work Week’, backed by Heritage Classic Car Insurance and Classic Car Weekly magazine.

It all kicked off at the Beaulieu International Autojumble last weekend and comes to a close at the Goodwood Revival on 13th, 14th and 15th September.

Chris Wilkinson, Senior Partner of Heritage insurance, explains: “This initiative is about maximising the last of the summer season and helping people use their classics to the full, prior to the onset of the autumn. These cars are meant for the road, not the garage, so it’s a great way for owners, and fellow motorists, to enjoy these classics in action.”

Classic Car Weekly editor Dave Richards added: “We want classic car owners to join with us in this national celebration of the classics we love, and get their car on the commute, the school run and their trips to the shops!”

Driving an older car regularly rather than stowing it away in a cobwebby garage for long periods has huge benefits; it keeps everything running sweetly, prevents internal corrosion in the engine, cooling and brake systems and generally helps make a classic more reliable in the long run. More than anything, it’s a whole load more fun!

Of course at VW Heritage have a habit of getting our classics out on a regular basis, and we encourage you to do likewise. Sadly the weather isn’t inspiring us thus far, but there is another 4 days to go! Go on, bring your classic VW along to see us, and join in the family album too!

Now wouldn’t it be great to make every week a ‘Drive your Classic to Work’ week! Just a tad annoying if you work from home!

  1. Such a great idea. Her ein South Africa I’ve just bought a 1975 Combi transporter and now have a project to fix it up and I intend to use it every day. I think they’re the best thing ever. Cheers P
