A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our 3rd annual Santa Cruise on Sunday 2nd December, you really made it a fabulous day out.
There was a great show of Volkswagen vehicles from Split Screen Buses and Beetles, through to Golfs (including a Rallye) and more modern T4 and T5 machinery too, not to forget the spread of Caterham sports cars, a brace of early Triumphs, and the odd MG thrown into the mix.
After carefully planning the route to avoid any nasties, this still wasn’t enough for one Beetle, it had to turn back when it got to the A23 as was just too low, it did look cool though!
Leaving Burgess Hill with about 50 cars in convoy, Nigel’s late Bay transporting “Tadworth the Hound” The Children’s Trust’s mascot. Our journey took us on a mixture of single and dual carriageways providing optimum opportunity for Simon and Phil from the Apex Festival to strut their stuff, filming the event from car mounted cameras. Video link to follow!
Once at Tadworth, it was a civilised game of synchronised parking and off into the warm for hot drinks and cakes to meet the nursing staff and children staying on site. Gifts were handed over to the staff who distributed them out to the children, generous donations of DVDs, CDs and toiletries were all gratefully received.
It’s a tricky game counting Santas but we estimate around 70 people took part in this great event, and managed to bring a real festive cheer to Tadworth. A special mention to David and Nickie here at VW Heritage, who agreed to write off the costs of us purchasing the Santa suits originally (more than £200) meaning our event raised over £600 for this wonderful charity.
Enjoy these pictures to re-live the day or maybe they will make you want to join in next year.. more details to follow nearer the time 😉
