Gti International 2012

Our British summer was starting to cause concern in pre –show talks, expected high winds, rain a plenty and an airfield to contend with; we could be pitching our tents inside the marquee we had booked at this rate!

But we had to put our trust in Mother Nature, and set off Friday lunchtime from Heritage HQ- Me in the work van, David and Mark in the S6 with a race car in tow.

The obligatory carpark on the M25 meant a slow trip to Leicestershire and the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, home to the VW Heritage show team for the weekend.
Also with us were some special guests, Carsten had come over from VW Classic Parts to get a feel for the UK watercooled scene, and the guys from Nothelle had not one, but two rather special Golfs making their UK debut, after causing a stir at Techno Classica in Essen earlier this year.

Saturday offered a mixed climate, with on and off rain showers, and was little slow on the people and cars front in comparison to previous years. You can only presume the grey clouds were warning those who weren’t die hard to stay at home.

Sunday morning came round fast, and proof of the overnight rainfall was plain to see. The good news was the sun had his hat on, and he was coming out to play – as were all those who bottled it the day before!

Big thanks to Michael for bringing his Kamei Mk1 Golf race car along – it sat proud alongside the Nothelle Race Golf, and drew the crowds all day (when it wasn’t in action on the handling course!)

As a foot note, some of you may have heard of the terrible accident on the 1/4 mile strip on Sunday afternoon. We would like to wish the speediest of recoveries to all those involved and we really hope it doesn’t mean an end to the drag racing at this event in the future.

See you at the next one!

Anna
