Dans Dream Trolley Dash!

After hearing what Raef would add to his wish list, we caught up with Dan who has a slightly poorly 1970 Beetle, and would be game for winning this great prize (if we allowed him to enter!).

Unlike Raefs list, Dan has taken a more practical approach, choosing to replace many more service parts rather than “splashing out” on anything too flash; either that or his car needs more than a grand spending on it and these are the most sensible things to get!

An essential to the running of any engine; and with mis-fires a plenty on Dan’s engine it is about time he changed the leads. Picking the 8mm Flamethrower leads will allow him to upgrade his ignition coil and distributor in the future and these will cope admirably with the higher voltage spark generated/ required by them.

Ahhh, right on cue is the Flamethrower coil. As mentioned above these generate a much improved spark over the original coil helping to improve the efficiency and reliability of your ignition system. Available in chrome, and the more modest black as Dan has chosen this will help get his Beetle running properly again.

Completing the trio of ignition components to give Dan’s bug a new lease of life is the Flamethrower 009 distributor. Ready fitted with the “ignitor kit” which replaces the troublesome points and condenser with an electronic micro switch, this should mean less breakdowns and could make cold start issues a thing of the past too.

The problem with being so practical is when someone says “what would you spend £1000 on” you come up with things like this, Halogen conversion bulbs! At £4.96 each, they wouldn’t break the bank normally but it would be nicer to be given them I suppose! Great for getting more light out of your early headlamps by the way!

More practical stuff follows on Dan’s list, albeit an upgrade from standard. The 4 puck sprung clutch disc is super grippy, designed for road use and quick getaways. We’ve seen your driving Dan, so great choice here.

To match his new 4 puck clutch disc a Kennedy stage 1 pressure plate has been chosen. The stage 1 is great up to about 130hp, so should easily cope with Dan’s 1600cc and lead foot combo.

Splashing out again, this time on a pair of German axle gaiters. Well, he needs them for the car to function properly, and if we are paying he’ll go all out and have the best!

A nice set of KYB GR2 shock absorbers for the back of his Beetle, that’s more like it Dan!! Something chrome, and super shiny next, really push the boat out?!

Well, not quite chrome.. but a Spin True pulley puts Dan’s list back on track. A nice upgrade from the standard item, but finished in satin black to keep the same stock appearance. What could be next?!

5 litres of gearbox oil! The natural choice when offered free run of 14,000 parts and a £1000 to do it with! Back with his sensible hat on, a gearbox oil change could make the world of difference to his driving experience, and clear the sinuses out too!

Another blue 5 litre blue can, this time it’s Morris engine oil. Naturally it will be used, so it’s not a wasted choice, just a slightly practical one – following previous form at least!

So what should you do now?! Well I suggest logging onto our website and start adding parts to your wishlist. 1. I’m loving the 4 puck sprung clutch disc, surely a must =) I just dropped engine and gearbox from my ’67 and came across german axel gaiters so high five!

009 distributor is also an excellent choice. I’ll be putting one in my bug soon too.

    Good choices all round =p
