From behind the wheel of my 895cc polo, or even in the mighty 1.1 Golf i must admit to pretending I’m a racing driver from time to time, searching the best line through the corner trying to carry speed (and don’t I need to) and passing anyone I can along a winding dual carriageway in a quest for more retro racing kicks.
In the last few months we have been approached by a number of people who are doing it for real. They are competing in Mk1 or Mk2 Golf’s in either the VAG Trophy or the Gti Championship. Here is one such person.
Meet Sam, this year will be his debut race season, although his Dad has run Mark Fish Motorsport for the last 30 years, so being brought up on diet of slicks and race fuel he kinda knows the score. He is campaigning a Mk1 1.8 Gti in this years VAG trophy. The car comes complete with race pedigree having spent previous years in the Slick 50 and Road Saloon Championships, the engine was built by Richard Longman and is a great backbone for this car and debut season to be built around.
We will be keeping an eye on how Sams season unfolds over on his blog ”fishontrack” and hopefully will be able to update you with some more pics and a bit of video footage too! Click the banner below to find out more about this race series.
