Super Quick Split

We always enjoy seeing something a little special roll up on the forecourt of VW Heritage HQ, and this morning is certainly no exception. Most of the staff here left their chairs and peered out of the window when they heard the distinctive rumble of a performance air-cooled motor getting closer.

The Vehicle in question was this customers awesome 1964 21 window samba.

He informed us that it used to be used as an airport bus in Sweden, used for shuffling passengers around. Since then it has had a substantial lowering job and fitted with radar wheels.

The bodywork hasn’t seen any changes and remains as it was from the factory, apart from the holes cut in the decklid behind the numberplate to help vent what lays in the engine bay.

A monster 2332cc 190bhp motor which pushes this bus down the quarter mile in less than 15 seconds and earning the owner a place in the BWA club (buses with attitude).

Future plans for the bus include a fuel injection system which should see 220bhp on the dyno and the quarter mile passes tumbling down to the 14 second mark.

It’s great to see old VW’s being used even on days where the conditions are far from ideal. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more great vehicles like this gracing our forecourt in the summer months.

Thanks to the owner for letting us include this on our blog.

Until tomorrow

– Dave
