Since it’s last outing on May 17th for the Invitational Drag Day @ Santa Pod, the Jägerbug has one or two fairly major changes underway. The 1914cc engine that has lasted so well is finally being retired to make way for a bigger and better powerplant. The old engine was always meant to be a bit of a temporary arrangement whist the team managed to raise enough funds to build a ‘proper’ one. After 130 quarter mile passes we are glad to report that (thanks mainly to Street Style & Power / VW Heritage’s fantastic support) the build and fitting of the replacement engine is moving along nicely.
The new engine will be a 2276cc fitted with a 82mm stroker crank. With CB 044 Magnum C&C ported heads (by SSP) – cut for 94mm, ccd for 11-1 compression and hand ported, alongside an FK-89 cam and breathing through some 48 IDA’s. To handle all this extra power a new gearbox has been built and EBI will see the Jägerbug rolling on a new rear wheel / slick set up to hopefully allow us to get our new found power onto the tarmac. Barney and his team @ SSP are supplying a new exhaust system, photos of this to follow very soon….
The preparation that goes into building a performance engine is mind boggling, every part has to be trial fitted, then removed for clearances to be increased due to the oversize nature of the upgraded parts, before refitting over and over again. The next update will show the engine actually going together but in the meantime here are a few pics from the garage over the last week or so.
More updates to follow as the engine goes together and the gearbox is refitted into the car….
