'World Class'

It was another cracking effort from the Volksworld show team; booking sunshine after last year’s weather faux pas was inspired, and it certainly encouraged the enthusiasts out from their winter hibernation.

As usual, we were in attendance, meeting customers, taking orders, enjoying the show and giving away orders for free…. Yes, that’s right. We ran a competition all weekend to giveaway 3 orders each day, up to the value of £500!

A huge congratulations to those who were drawn as lucky winners, one scooping the top prize, £500 worth of parts from his £1300 order, while others were happy to get their £20 order for free. For those who didn’t win, 10% off and free UK delivery was incentive enough, added of course with the opportunity to meet their favourite VW suppliers in person to talk projects!

Out and about in the show, the standard of vehicles on display was high as usual. Our Single Cab shop truck was invited to be part of the “Old Speed” display; it really looked the part with oil drums, old wheels and a period style engine crate (complete with SSP engine) loaded on the back. Elsewhere there was a showroom display dedicated to the Bay window, with some beautiful stock examples taking pride of place.

Special guests, there were a few. Bruce Meyers had come along as the show celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Beach Buggy. Elsewhere for those with a penchant for “kids bikes” BMX legend Bob Haro was overseeing the Cool Flo BMX show and shine, and no doubt offering tips to the ramp riders too!

Favourites from the show, well where do we start? We were bowled over by the standard of Graham’s Westfalia, which rotated for the weekend in the upper hall. What was originally built to “take the family camping” clearly got a little out of hand, but looked all the better for it; resulting in a top 20 award, and scooping the Prosign choice too. Also claiming a prize was an unassuming Yellow Buggy, built by Mark Dryden of Flatlands Engineering; it sported many a trick touch that some untrained eyes might of missed. A Beetle style dashboard and shrunken O.E wheel complimented the denim interior – a trimming homage to the Jeans Beetle of the ’70s, and a theme that continued externally not only in colour, but with the graphics, banded GT steels and super cool running boards.

We couldn’t round up this review without offering a big congratulations to “Uncle Mark” who’s ’56 Oval was rewarded with a Top 20 trophy (He’s Ben P’s uncle, and practically family to the rest of VW Heritage).  A deserved mention should go to this rather tasty Blue ’67 Squareback which took top honours as Best of Show.

We’d love to post all our photos here, but there are just too many! Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more photos, and check out the full winners listing over on the Volksworld blog here.
